Gunners to miss out on starlet
Bayer Leverkusen have beaten Arsenal to the signing of Czech starlet Ondrej Mazuch.
The Gunners had reportedly taken a keen interest in the 17-year-old defender but FC Brno have confirmed they have accepted an offer from the German club.
Under the terms of the arrangement Mazuch will remain with the Czech side on loan until June 2008, after Bayer reportedly paid around €1.5million (£1million) to secure his services.
"We could not refuse such an offer," Brno club director Radek Belak told CTK.
"Apart from the transfer fee, we will also have a percentage of the fee when Ondrej moves to another club."
The player will now fly to Leverkusen next week in order to undergo a medical, and Mazuch is pleased to have the chance to remain in his homeland for the next 18 months.
"I am glad that the negotiations finished and I can stay in Brno for one more season," said Mazuch.
"With this, the step will not be so big. Anyway, I appreciate the option to be a Bayer player."
